Music is an outlet for many people and everywhere you turn, there is access to it. We can turn on the tunes via the internet, car radio, Ipod, cell phone, mp3 and CD player. We don’t even have to be anywhere near our homes while doing so. The world is full of music. But there’s one message more prevalent in today’s music that sounds crystal clear - sex. (more…)
The music scene changed dramatically in the nineties. New genres were popping up rapidly and more musicians were reverting back to ‘folk style’ with a modern twist sound. Notable multi-styled singer-songwriters include Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Beck, Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley, and Jewel. There was also the explosion of grunge band Nirvana into the mainstream, who found a large audience in the youths of the ’90s through their apathetic attitude and their appeal to Generation X. The sixties were about experimentation. Younger generations soon began to rebel against the conservative norms of the time, as well as disassociate themselves from mainstream liberalism, in particular they turned away from the high levels of materialism which was so common during the era. This created a counter-culture that eventually turned into a social revolution throughout much of the western world. In turn, music became an avenue to which revolutionary messages could be heard by millions of people, all at the same time. (more…)
In the eighties, pop music dominated the airwaves and dancing was made even more popular by such movies as “Fame”, “Flashdance”, “Footloose”, “Breakin” and “Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo”. People not only had the choice of listening to their favorite artists, but could watch them on TV. This was made possible by music videos. The Fifties were an exciting time in music history. Music began to take a turn into the rock and roll era and teenagers started finding themselves in a frenzy over the new sounds they heard. Some of today’s recording artists duplicate the funky sounds of the seventies, selecting instrument arrangements that mentally take people back to the seventies; a time where Disco Techs were the place to be on the weekends. Most people brand seventies music with the sound of Disco. Although disco is the most noted sound of the seventies, other musicians with unique sounds also planted their seeds of music during that decade. (more…)
