The Latin culture is often linked to romance. It’s colorful, spicy, and sensual mix of music is no exception. Latin music in the United States, includes the music of all countries in Latin America (and the Caribbean) and comes in many varieties. From the simple, rural conjunto music of northern Mexico to the sophisticated habanera of Cuba, from the symphonies of Heitor Villa-Lobos to the simple and moving Andean flute. The British Invasion was the term applied by the news media — and subsequently by consumers — to the influx of rock and roll, beat and pop performers from the United Kingdom who became popular in the United States, Australia and Canada. The classic British Invasion period was 1964 to 1967 (roughly bracketed by The Beatles’ appearance on Ed Sullivan and the emergence of Jimi Hendrix as a U.S.-born superstar who had his first success in the UK), but the term has also been applied to later “waves” of UK artists that had significant impact on the North American entertainment market. Rock music emerged in the 1940’s from places like, New York City, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. According to Allmusic, “In its purest form, Rock & Roll has three chords, a strong, insistent back beat, and a catchy melody. Early rock & roll drew from a variety of sources, primarily blues, R&B, and country, but also gospel, traditional pop, jazz, and folk.
