Michael Joseph Jackson (born August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana USA) is an American musician and entertainer. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group.
Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music as the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and Thriller—credited for transforming the music video into an art form and a promotional tool—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. There can be no music without the musical expertise of producers. The music producers takes on many roles such as controlling the recording sessions, coaching and guiding the musicians, organizing and scheduling production budget and resources, supervising the recording, mixing and mastering processes. The Vietnam War brought about many changes in the social scene of the United States and around the world. People wanted the war to end and protested in many ways. They were angry because lives were being lost in record numbers so the ‘baby-boomers’ took action. While some protested through various marches and ’sit-ins’ others found their voice in music. No one defines music of the fifties like Elvis Presley; his name is synonymous with Rock and Roll. His sound has been copied, music imitated and image immortalized by people all over the world.
